Obituary of Barbara Jean Gillespie

Barbara Jean Gillespie, age 78, of Coweta was born on February 21, 1938 to Mose and Violet (Williams) Childers in Claremore, OK. Barbara passed away on Saturday afternoon, September 10, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK. Barbara was a 1956 graduate of Coweta High School. She and Donald Gillespie were married on February 1, 1958 in Miami, OK. She worked at Coweta Public Schools as the Indian Education Coordinator. Barbara also was a realtor at Ralph Sanders Realtors until she retired. She was a member of Davis Chapel United Methodist Church in Coweta. She enjoyed reading, genealogy, cooking, fishing and crocheting. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Gillespie in 1997, her parents, Mose and Violet Childers, her son, Gary Gillespie and 3 brothers, Daniel Childers, Victor Childers and Kenneth Childers. Barbara is survived by 1 son, Larry Gillespie of Coweta, OK; 1 sister, Joyce Bear of Coweta, OK; 1 granddaughter, Tiffany Morris of Wichita, KS; 1 great granddaughter, Brooke Morris; special aunt, Josephine "Dolly" McHenry; special friends, Crete Kelley and Dr. Barbara Kawalick; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Viewing for Barbara will be from 9 AM - 7 PM on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the funeral home. Wake Service will be at 7 PM on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Davis Chapel United Methodist Church in Coweta, OK. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Pallbearers are Andy Coe, Kerry Gillespie, Doug Mavers, Chris Morris, Hunter Singleton and Patrick Singleton. Honorary Pallbearers are Sam Atherton, Warren Singleton, Turner Bear Jr., Benny Parkerson, Tommy Harris, Ronald McHenry, Chuck McHenry and Mike Berryhill.
