Obituary of Vera Jo Hanes

Vera Jo Hanes, age 78, was born on August 10, 1937 to James Newell and Velma Elizabeth (Moore) Wakefield in Tulsa, OK. She passed away on Tuesday afternoon, July 12, 2016 at The Gardens in Sapulpa, OK. Vera was a graduate of Coweta High School. She married James Garrett on January 26, 1957 and had two daughters, Vickie and Vonda and a son Gregg. She married Joseph Glenn Hanes on June 27, 1980 in Tulsa, OK and he preceded her in death in 2014. She was a homemaker for most of her life who loved taking care of her family. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, her father who died serving on the U.S.S Indianapolis during World War II, her mother and step-father, Jim Butts. Vera is survived by 3 children, Vickie Garza and husband, Ramon of Broken Arrow, OK, Gregg Garrett and wife, Leslie of Broken Arrow, OK and Vonda Rempe and husband, Dan of Piedmont, OK; 1 brother, Earl Wakefield and wife Sandy of Tulsa, OK; 1 sister, Becky Smith of Houston, TX; 7 grandchildren, Lauren Rost, Morgan Guernsey Johanna Garza, Caleb Garrett, Garrett Rempe, Nathan Rempe and Bailey Ameen; 2 great grandchildren, Trinity Rost and Lacey Rost; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Viewing will be from 2-4 PM on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home. Services celebrating Vera's life will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 18, 2016 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, OK with Chaplain Tom Smith of Physicians Choice Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in the Ft. Gibson National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, OK. Pallbearers are Gregg Garrett, Caleb Garrett, Dan Rempe, Garrett Rempe, Timothy Rost and Thomas Guernsey.
