Obituary of Dorothy Stringer

Dorothy May Jones Stringer, age 85, of Coweta went to her eternal home in Heaven on Sunday morning, December 21, 2008 at Coweta Manor Nursing Home. She was born on May 25, 1923 in Birmingham, England to Arthur and Frances (Beezley) Jones. At the age of 17, she joined the British Royal Air Force. She was a member of the Women’s Air Corp. and served her country of England during World War II. During World War II, she met and married Zoal Stringer, a young soldier from Coweta. They were united in marriage in April of 1945. After the war was over, Dorothy and their daughter, Sandra Gail, came by ship from England in March of 1946 and joined Zoal to make their home in Coweta. Three other children were born to Zoal and Dorothy’s marriage; David Paul, Sylvia Kathleen and Mary Ann. Dorothy began attending the Coweta Church of God of Prophecy in 1948 and became a member on March 24, 1968. She organized hundreds of weddings and funerals and was the church secretary for over 37 years. Dorothy was a prayer warrior, a woman of integrity, an accomplished artist, a talented florist, a beacon of light to many and a friend to all. She is survived by 1 son, David Stringer and his wife, Barbara, of Coweta; 3 daughters, Sandra Geneva and her husband, Bob, of Hulbert, Mary Ann Burton and her husband, Ron, of Coweta, and Sylvia Frost and her husband, George, of Coweta; 2 sisters, Kathleen Jones of England and Iris Gilman of Australia; 6 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and countless precious friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Zoal Stringer, her parents, Arthur and Frances Jones, and two sisters, Edna Jones and Winifred Devine. Dorothy’s fondest wish is that you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior so that she will see you again in Heaven. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Coweta with Pastor D. Frank Hughes officiating. Committal prayers and burial will follow at Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home, Coweta.
