Obituary of Jack Denton
Jack Walton Denton, age 83, of Coweta passed from this life on Thursday morning, April 24, 2008 at his home, surrounded by his loving family members. Jack was born on July 13, 1924 in Coweta, OK to Juddie Lee and Flora (Hendricks) Denton. He received his education and attended Coweta Public Schools until the 11th grade. At that time, he went to California for one year to work and then joined the United States Navy. After his career in the Navy he then went to Kansas and worked in the oil field for two years. Jack then returned to Coweta where he married Betty Potter in 1950. Two children were born to this union, Ronnie Dale and Melinda Gail. Betty preceded him in death in 1991. Jack worked for National Tank in Tulsa, OK for about 12 years. He owned and operated Coweta Laundromat for three years. After selling that he went to work at Yuba Heat for one year. Jack set up Quality Control for John Slagel and moved to Zurn Quality for one year. He then went to work for Litwin Engineering and Construction in Tulsa, OK and worked there until he retired. After retirement he and Betty spent their time enjoying all the things the grandchildren were in and supporting them. Jack was always known as "Grandpa" on the softball team and at the livestock shows. He later married Mina (Gilbert) Denton in 1999. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Betty, two brothers, and two sisters. Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife, Mina, of the home; one son, Ronnie Denton and his wife, Beverly, of Coweta, OK; one daughter, Melinda Foster of Coweta, OK; seven grandchildren, Julie and Brad Anderson, Ryan and Jennifer Denton, Amanda and Charlie Burke, and Andrea Foster; five great-grandchildren, Mattie Anderson, Lily Anderson, Lindsey Burke, Wyatt Burke, and Clay Burke; one brother, Leroy Denton of Coweta, OK; one sister, Irene Jones of Coweta, OK; one step-son, Ray Gilbert and his wife, Dayna, of Hennessey, OK; two step-daughters, Janice Wenzel and her husband, Stan, of Tulsa, OK and Phyllis Lawson and her husband, Gary, of Coweta, OK; six step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta with Rev. David Jones officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Vernon Cemetery. Services and arrangements are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home, Coweta. Pallbearers will be Larry Denton, Larry Calkins, Harlan Wheeler, Dean Denton, Dwain Denton, and Chad Clifton. Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. (Jr.) Denton, Loyd Wilson, Jimmy Denton, Ray Gilbert, Gary Lawson, Stan Wenzel, Paul Denton, and Rowland Wilson.
