Obituary of Freddie Mae Harris

On December 25, 1924 a daughter was born to James Monroe Jackson and Jeffie Jones-Jackson in Seminole, Oklahoma. They named her Freddie Mae. Freddie was one of seventeen children. After spending her early years in Seminole where she attended and graduated from high school, Freddie relocated to Coweta, Oklahoma where she dedicated her life to Christ and became a member of Mt. Rose Baptist Church. Later, Freddie joined her husband Tommy as a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she has remained a faithful member for the last four decades. During her early years in Coweta, Freddie became the proud mother of two children, Elwyn Pruitt and Marva Jo Waldron. Later Freddie met and married Tommy Harris on June 19, 1964 in Seminole, Oklahoma. During her life, Freddie made many friends; she loved people. She was kind, caring, and had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved cooking which was evident by her 20+ year career with the Green Parrot Café in Coweta and her final ten years of employment as a cook with Profit Foods, a subsidiary of Ford Glass. There are very few friends that did not visit her home, share a meal, and engage in pleasant conversation. For 44 years, Tommy remained a dedicated husband. During Freddie's extended illness, he cared for her and remained by her side until she departed this life on Thursday, February 21, 2008. Preceding her in death were her parents, daughter, Marva Jo Waldron Parrish, and ten siblings; Iola Williams, Viola Jackson, Teola Williams, Estelle Pitts, Hester James, Gertrude Jackson, Rose Simmons, Agusta Jackson, Howard Jackson, and Harrison Ballard. She leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Tommy Harris; her son, Elwyn Pruitt of Atlanta, Georgia; siblings, Ollie Mae Williams and Elzatie Pruitt of Coweta, Oklahoma, Odell Neal of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Adell Clayton (Richard) of Wagoner, Oklahoma, Ludie Jackson of Fresno, California, and James Monroe Jackson, Jr. of Seattle, Washington; grandchildren, Lee Barnes, Jr. of Oklahoma, Robin Barnes-Jefferson of Jacksonville, Florida, and Lisa Pruitt of Atlanta, Georgia; eight great grandchildren; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
