Obituary of Robert Young

Robert S. Young, age 82, of Coweta, Oklahoma passed from this life on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at his home. Robert was born on March 21, 1925 in Spiro, Oklahoma to Isaac Marion and Maude Ella (Vaughn) Young. He received his education in the Coweta school system. He joined the United States Army on August 14, 1946 and was honorably discharged on September 13, 1947. Robert and Vorcie Jane Burt were united in marriage on June 19, 1948 in Coweta, Oklahoma. Robert worked in the maintenance department for Coweta Public Schools for ten years until his retirement in 1996. He also worked as a crane operator and welder for C.E. Natco for 34 years. He was a member of the Thomas Community Church in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. His hobbies included auctions, cattle, and gardening. He also enjoyed going to church and being with his family. Robert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Vorcie Jane of the home; two sons, Ronnie Michael Young and his wife, Carol, of Coweta, Oklahoma and Stanley Ray Young and his wife, Judy, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; one daughter, Jaletta Irene Fisher and her husband, Ron, of Coweta, Oklahoma; one brother, Fred Young of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three sisters, Evelyn Herd of Coweta, Oklahoma, Lois Clark of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and Pauline Norman of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and one great grandson. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 21, 2008 at the First Assembly of God in Coweta with Rev. Fred Young and Rev. Paul Holmes officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home.
