Obituary of Mary Ella Marie Hodges
Mary Ella Marie (Rowland) Hodges of Coweta passed away on November 8, 2007 at the age of 81. She was born in Coweta on February 19, 1926 to Eric and Sadie Rowland. She attended school in Coweta. During her sophomore year in school she started dating Jay Hodges. On July 24, 1943 they were united in marriage. For a short time they lived in Tulsa and California before making their home in Coweta. Marie attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. Her first career was teaching. She taught at Sunny Brook School and Bennett Farm Schools in Wagoner County. After teaching she worked in the County Treasurer's office at the Wagoner County Court House. Marie worked for Amerada Hess in Tulsa for 34 years until her retirement in 1986. Marie was a member of the First Christian Church where she actively attended many years. Marie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed and long remembered. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jan Beth and Sonny Scott of Norman; two grandsons, Nathanial Scott of Norman and Seth Scott of New York City; sister, Louise Schauffler of Porter, brother and sister-in-law, James and Winnie Rowland of Broken Arrow and many special nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Jay her husband of 57 years, two sisters, Lorene Thompson and Pauline Rampey. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at First Christian Church in Coweta with burial at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta. Pallbearers will be Butch King, Tony Holmes, Brent Hughes, Bob Hill, Lynn Morgan and Dennis Hodges. Honorary pall bearers will be Randy Swartwood, Bob Geneva, Lee Shieldnight, Alden Meadows, Bill Carter, Leon Hawkins, Roy Martin, Norman Clawson and Vurnell Morgan.
