Obituary of James Williams

James A. Williams of Coweta passed away on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Hillcrest Speciality Hospital in Tulsa. He was 88 years old. James was born on April 27,1919 in Turley, Oklahoma to James Eugene and Bertha May (Garlinghouse) Williams. He received his education in the Owasso school system and graduated from Owasso High School in 1937. He joined the United States Navy in September, 1942 and was honorably discharged in November, 1945. James and Genevieve Chambers were married in 1942 in California and she preceded him in death. He then married Verline Melton on July 27, 1990 in Washington County, Arkansas. James came to the Coweta area in 1982 from Tulsa. James was an engineer at Amoco Oil Company for 45 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Coweta Roundup Club. His hobbies included horses, fishing, cooking, and traveling. Survivors include his wife Verline of the home; one step-brother, Jim Goodin of Mustang, Oklahoma; two granddaughters, Debra Mooney of Burns Flat, Oklahoma and Elizabeth Warren of Louisville, Kentucky; two great grandchildren, Danielle Horner and Gracie Mooney; one niece, Linda Jeffs of Broken Arrow; and one nephew, Ronald Evans, of Collinsville, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Genevieve, one daughter, Beverly Warren, and two sisters. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta with Rev. David Jones officiating. Committal prayers and entombment will follow at the mausoleum in Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home.
