Obituary of Henry Lee Childress

H. Lee Childress took his last ride on earth on August 28, 2007 and passed into heaven after complications from surgery. He enjoyed life in Oklahoma and Texas during his 57 years. We promised to see him laid to rest in the cowboy way. A cowboy style celebration of his life and memory tribute will be at the Childress Ranch in Coweta on Saturday, September 1, 2007 at 5:00pm. He graduated high school in Hale Center, TX and attended college at Texas Tech in Lubbock, TX. H. Lee was a successful general contractor in Lubbock, Texas in his earlier years and enjoyed competitive skeet shooting. He subsequently moved to Oklahoma to be a ranch and farm manager. He organized a hunting camp lease operation in Texas and Oklahoma and enjoyed being an avid sportsman. H. Lee was always known as a straight shooter, a man of his word and he would not tolerate corruption or abuse of the "little people". He is survived by his mother, Mary Winifred Childress of Hale Center, TX; son H. Kirk Childress of Dallas, TX; daughter Katherine Lee Childress and grandson, Daniel Lee Childress-Hennig of Dallas, TX; sister Judy Kay Boles of Jackson Hole, Wyoming and nieces Sara Cheyenne Boles and Savannah Emi-Leigh Boles. He was preceded in death by his father Jimmy York Childress. Lee is also survived by Valorey Totten of their home in Catoosa, OK and her three sons and families, Kyle (Jessie& Kaylee), Dwayne (Jennifer, Cadee and Wyatt) and Rex (Krissi) Gibson. He leaves behind a host of relatives and friends from Oklahoma and Texas to mourn the loss of a true friend. In lieu of flowers, H Lee Childress would prefer that any donations be made to the NRA or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home in Coweta.
