Obituary of John Wood
John "J.T." Wood of Coweta passed away on Monday, July 31, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was 84 years old. J.T. was born on March 23, 1923 in the Choska Bottoms near Coweta, Oklahoma to John Samual and Louella (Noblet) Wood. He received his education in the Porter school system and graduated from Porter High School in 1941. J.T. and Lorene Poplin were united in marriage on August 22, 1946 in Coweta, Oklahoma. J.T. worked as a farmer and as a delivery driver for AMAC Propane Company for twenty years. He served as county commissioner from 1968 to1970. He also worked as a hydro tester at Knight Industries for ten years. J.T. was a member of the First Christian Church in Coweta. His hobbies included quail hunting, antiquing, fishing, watching sports, and he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. J.T. enjoyed being around people and he never met a stranger. Survivors include his wife, Lorene of the home; one son, Johnny Wood and his wife, Karen, of Coweta; four daughters, Nancy Boston and her husband, Jerry, of Coweta, Cathy Chance of the home, Patricia Meadows and her husband, George, of Coweta, and Lisa Watkins and her husband, Clyde, of Broken Arrow; seven sisters, Lomeda Hall of Coweta, Joella Rampey of Skiatook, Patsy Rampey of Broken Arrow, Nita Sturgeon of Broken Arrow, Loretta Meadows of Coweta, Helen Hawkins of Bryan, Texas, and Beverly Kuehn of Broken Arrow; 12 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives; and his dog, Toto. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Gene Wood. Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta with Reverend David Jones and John Michael Howard officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home in Coweta.
