Obituary of Vera Chartier

Vera Pearl (Boerstler) Chartier passed away on July 10, 2007, at her daughter's home in Edmond. Vera was 88 years old and would have celebrated her 89th birthday on August 7. Vera was born on August 7, 1918, in Tulsa County about 81st street and Highway 75, to John Olney Boerstler and Alta Anna (Archer) Boerstler. They moved to Jenks in 1928. She finished high school at Central High School in Tulsa in 1936. On April 30, 1937, she and Earl Henry Chartier were married. They were married for 60 years and 7 months before Earl died. Vera worked all of her adult life, last as manager of the coffee shop at St. Francis Hospital until she retired when Earl retired. Earl and Vera were members of the First Baptist Church in Coweta. Vera was active in church, worked for the Wagoner County Election Board after retirement, and Earl and Vera delivered for Meals on Wheels. They loved traveling and visited all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and Great Britain. Vera moved to Carriage Crossing in Coweta in 1997 and lived there until May 2007. She enjoyed hosting her large family there for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She really enjoyed being there and at the church with her friends. Her greatest love was spending time with her children and their respective families, especially at the holidays. Vera is survived by their five children, Jack Earl and Nita of Coweta, Mary Anne and Gene Pogue of Edmond, Linda Sue and Richard Mason of Edmond, Gary Dale of Lewisville, Texas, and Lawana Jane McDaniel of Tulsa; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; her brother, Monte Harold Boerstler and wife, Reba, of Duncan; sister-in-law, Betty Boerstler, wife of brother Johnny; and many nieces, nephews, great and great-great grandchildren. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alta Boerstler, her husband, Earl Henry Chartier, sister, M. Pauline Wasson, brother, Johnny Claude Boerstler, and great granddaughter, Mandi Anne McIntosh. She loved pretty flowers, but in place of flowers she asked that donations be made to the Baptist Disaster Relief, Baptist Building, 3800 N. May Avenue, Oklahoma City, OK 73112, (405) 942-3000 / (405) 942-3800 or a charity of your choice. The funeral service was held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta with Reverend David Jones officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements and services are under the direction of Wright Funeral Home in Coweta.
