Obituary of Leona O. Brents

Leona O. Brents, age 95, longtime resident of Coweta went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday evening, January 15, 2017 at the Clarehouse in Tulsa, OK surrounded by her family. Leona was born on March 14, 1921 to George F. and Ada (Davis) Shaw in Miller, OK. She was a graduate of Moyers High School and then attended college at Durant and Wilburton. Leona then moved to Tulsa where she worked during the war time at Brown Duncan Tea Room and Douglas Aircraft. She then attended Oklahoma A&M / OSU where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education. Leona and Roy Brents were united in marriage on August 17, 1946 in the Rose Room at Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa, OK. She was an Elementary Teacher in Jumbo, Copan, Beggs and Coweta where she retired in 1984. Leona was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Coweta. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, shopping, cooking, watching the OSU Cowboys on tv and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed volunteering for many local clubs and her church. Leona was preceded in death by her husband in 1972, Roy Brents, her parents, George and Ada Shaw, 1 sister, Odelia Napier and 5 brothers, Wren Shaw, Faye Shaw, Lester Shaw, Raymond Shaw and Carl Shaw. Leona is survived by 2 daughters, Wanda Vogel of Tulsa, OK and Barbara Morton and husband, Rob of Coweta, OK; 2 sisters, Cleora Shaw (twin sister) of Antlers, OK and Theda Walling and husband, Harold of Paris, TX; 4 grandchildren, Ryan Morton (Magy), Amanda Jones (Bo), Jonathan Vogel (Ashley) and Neil Morton (Nikki); 6 great grandchildren, Jacob Morton, Hailey Morton, Eloise Vogel, Lillian Morton, Walt Vogel and Violet Morton; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Viewing for Leona will be from 12-7 PM on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 with the family present from 5-7 PM. Services celebrating Leona's life will be at 11 AM on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Coweta, OK with Chaplain Roy Betz of Evergreen Hospice officiating. A private interment will be in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK. Pallbearers are Ryan Morton, Neil Morton, Amanda Vogel-Jones, Jonathan Vogel, Rob Morton, Butch King and Sam Farmer. Honorary Pallbearers are Ellen Lowrey, Norma Dean Query, Irma Richison, Dortha Cottrill, Mary Beth Rutherford, Sandy Aston, Brenda Brown, Carol Fowler, Paulette Warner, Jane Harrell Todd, Lisa Clegg and Evergreen Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Brents to the Clarehouse or to the Roy and Leona Brents Memorial Scholarship Fund at BancFirst.
