Obituary of Velta C. Edwards

Velta C. Edwards, age 92, of Coweta was born on March 2, 1924 to Winfield C. and Millie (Esque) Nelson in Piney, Ark. Velta went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, March 10, 2016 at The Cottage Extended Care in Tulsa, Okla. Velta was a loving and caring homemaker who loved caring for her family. She and Hanson Henry Edwards were married on February 20, 1941 in Arkansas and he preceded her in death in 1973. Velta was a member of the Coweta Church of God of Prophecy. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, quilting and cooking. Velta is lovingly survived by 6 children, William Ray Edwards of Bakersfield, Calif., Frank Edwards of Porter, Okla., Reva Meadows of Coweta, Okla., Virgil Edwards of Davis, Okla., Roger Edwards of Coweta, Okla. and Judy Burris of Coweta, Okla.; 1 sister, Ruby Christman of Payola, Kan.; 19 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Velta was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, 2 daughters, 2 sons, 2 sisters and 9 brothers. Viewing for Velta will be from 9 AM-7 PM on Monday, March 14, 2016 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home with the family present from 5-7 PM. Funeral services celebrating Velta's life will be at 10 AM on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Coweta Church of God of Prophecy in Coweta, Okla. with Pastor Larry Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Bixby Cemetery in Bixby, Okla. Pallbearers are Ben Edwards, Ryan Edwards, Doug Meadows, John Meadows, Marcus Sloan and Dwayne Tharpe.
