Obituary of Raymond Russell Simmons

Raymond Russell Simmons, age 93, resident of Hominy, Okla. was born on June 9, 1922 to Christopher Columbus and Dovie Leona (Kieffer) Simmons in Valliant, Okla. He married Bernice Lucille (Plunk) Simmons on May 24, 1941 in Tempe, Ariz. Raymond passed away on Saturday afternoon, January 30, 2016 at his home in Hominy, Okla. Raymond was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1943 to 1945. He was honorably discharged and awarded a purple heart. He was a Machinist for many years until he retired. Raymond is lovingly survived by 2 daughters, Loretta Horine of Hominy, Okla. and Ronda Madewell and husband, Ken of Disney, Okla.; 1 sister, Pansy Shields and husband, Jerry of Willcox, Ariz.; 7 grandchildren, Patricia Horton, Leslie Horine, Amanda Fitzgerald, Carl "Bubba" Toothman, Tonya Pearce, Danny Harris and Hayley Campbell; 13 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Lucille Simmons in 2010, his parents, Christopher and Dovie Simmons, 3 sons, Tyrone Simmons, Dariel Simmons and Terry Lee Simmons, 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Viewing for Raymond will be from 9 AM - 6 PM on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the funeral home. Funeral services celebrating Raymond's life will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Coweta, Okla. with Jackie Hewitt officiating.
