Obituary of Gene Brooks

Riley Gene Brooks, age 70, lifelong resident of Broken Arrow passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, September 27, 2015 at his home in Broken Arrow, OK. Gene was born on January 20, 1945 to Howard U. and Katie Jane (Price) Brooks in Grayville, IL. He was a graduate of Coweta High School. Gene and Barbara S. Jenkins were married on July 13, 1967 in Nowata, OK. He worked as an Automobile Mechanic at Ernie Miller Pontiac in Tulsa, OK for many years until he retired in 1982. Gene was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, OK. He enjoyed fishing, camping and hunting. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Howard U. and Katie Jane Brooks, his daughter, Jennifer (Brooks) Fuller and his sister, Juanita Alma Jones. Gene is lovingly survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara Brooks of the home in Broken Arrow, OK; 1 son, Mike Brooks of Broken Arrow, OK; 1 brother, Carl Brooks and wife, Betty of Broken Arrow, OK; 2 grandchildren, Courtney Griffith and husband, Ethan of Atlanta, TX and Chance Brooks of Warner, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Viewing will be from 6-8 PM on Monday, September 28, 2015 at Wright-Brown Family Funeral Home. Funeral services celebrating Gene's life will be at 2 PM on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at Sunnyside Baptist Church in Broken Arrow, OK with Rev. Roland Whitehurst officiating. Burial will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK. Pallbearers are Eddie Herndon, Jimmy Helms, Randy Jones, Darrell Brooks, Jerry Pearson and Galen Conner.
