I just heard about Dwight's passing through an IBMer Ron today and my heart goes out to the Fields family. I loved working with Dwight in Sterling Forest for many years. His smile and laugh was contagious. I always managed to get a big hug from him whenever we saw each other. I love sitting behind him in computer classes and just checking out his muscles as I always made him blush and laugh over it. I will remember him in my prayers tonight and send him hugs up to heaven. God Bless his family. Love Janet

Dwight had the biggest heart. He once came all the way to my apartment unexpectedly to bring me a unicorn mirror cause he knew I liked them and he had gotten one from someone. Some people would be intimated by him, but he was all good! I am so sorry to see he has passed.

To the family of Dwight Fields -- your wonderful son made an impact on many in the IBM community. He was smart, kind, sharp-witted, eloquent, generous with his time and talents, compassionate, and engaging. Dwight will be missed by many. You are in our thoughts, our hearts, and our prayers.

I also worked with Dwight at IBM for many years, and was so saddened to hear of his passing. He was so sweet, and yes, his laugh was so awesome and hearty, I can still hear him!. He was loved by everyone and he gave his love and friendship TO everyone. I remember he and I were trying to quit smoking at the same time - and we both succeeded and celebrated our success together. I remember he came to my house to visit when I had my daughter, and he brought a gift and stayed for dinner. He is one person that will always and forever stay in my memory and my heart; he will be greatly missed, he was truly a special person. Rest in peace Dwight, I'm sure we'll meet again one day.....

I met Dwight when he attended SUNY at New Paltz. I was his brother's girl friend. Benn transferred to Seton Hall and that's when I used to hang out with Dwight. I remember going to the movies with him to see Blazing Saddles. We laughed so much and so loud. He loved to laugh. I don't know why but I remember he loved the song Bennie and the Jets by Elton John. Every time I hear that song, it reminds me of him. He was very sweet. I lost touch with him when I got married in 1980. I have fond memories of Dwight.. The Bible says that to be absent in the body is to be present with Christ. I shall see him again and share some good laughs.

You couldn't help but be happy when you spent time with Dwight. He brightened up the Operations room at IBM STF always! I'm very sorry to hear of his passing. I can hear his laugh still, that's the kind of impression he left on me. My husband worked with him often in the '80's during the night shifts at IBM and asked me to add that he had many nice conversations with Dwight, he was a real pleasure to work with. With deepest sympathies to Dwight's family. Rest in Peace sweet man. With Love, Corinne and Dennis Brown

We were so sad to hear about Dwight's passing. He helped to make difficult days brighter. He genuinely cared about so many people. He leaves us having made the world a little better, more joyful and having given us an example of how to be a friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family to find grace during this difficult time. With our deepest sympathies and remembering how he made life fun! God bless you Dwight! Liz and Doug Mendenhall

I remember when I was temporary at work, I met Dwight and we were friends ever since that day. He helped me figure out what I was supposed to be doing. When I think of all of the things we did like the weights (lifting and being educated about them), going to church (Dwight was in the spirit), going to get our taxes done (it was always an adventure to do this and was an all day event), looking at cars (Dwight had speakers that were so loud we could only point instead of talk and who could forget the blue Grand Prix), the stories he told me about growing up (he couldn't figure out why I thought it was a little crazy to live around tornado's) the times at his house (where we gathered for the career boxing matches), the long debates about politics (sometimes I think he worked in the White House), the times at my house when Dwight would tell me a long story (and then he'd be laughing for the next 10 minutes while he was trying to finish it), the theories that he discussed regarding people, the universe and all of the different ways you could get to the same answer (he was smart), and how much he liked going to the yellow house in Washingtonville, NY to see his parents and, his brothers (the lawyer and the sportsman)! Dwight was always worried about everyone and I too remember him making sure there was a new calendar in my house at the beginning of the year! I can recall all of the times we went out to eat for breakfast, but usually left at lunch time (he studied the menu for a lllllooooonnnnnggggg time before he made a choice)..... every time! I was troubled by his passing, but I know that he is okay and I'll see him again. Rest in peace my brother and you're already blessed by God!

Dwight was a good friend, from working together at IBM, as well as the years thereafter. He was always friendly, positive and cheerful. He was also a very spiritual person who spend a lot of time sharing his faith and working with the youth in his community. We will miss him here but I'm sure we'll meet again.

Everyone will miss that distinctive and hearty laugh that was all Dwight. I met Dwight for the first time on July 6, 1987, my first day working at IBM. We soon became friends and remained so ever since. I’m thankful for our friendship. You are missed Dwight.

It's hard to believe you are gone, you were a great man. I enjoyed working with you for many years at IBM, you always kept things happy and positive. I remember carpooling to POK together. You had a special custom car seat moved back a few inches so those long legs would fit! I am so fortunate to have known such a great person - God bless you!

I worked with Dwight for many years at IBM Sterling Forest. He was a great guy to work with. We also played against each other in the IBM Watson Trophy basketball league. He was a tough guy to move around in the paint. What a great guy. He will be missed.

I met Dwight in May 1970 while living on Stewart Air Force Base. Back then he and I, along with several others: Benny Fields, his brother, Dana Mervin, Sonny Cole, my brother Tyrone, et al, spent a lot of time together--namely at the base gym and working at the commissary. We moved to California in July, 1971 and I eventually lost contact, but never forgot Dwight or the other guys with whom I had such a great time. In 1998 I was fortunate to reconnect with Dwight. Since then he has been such a blessing in my life. He and I would have some of the most profound theological discussions about Christ, His grace and mercy, the wretchedness of man, and the state of the church, etc. His 'go to passage' was Romans 10. I will truly miss him. But, Dwight's departure from this life isn't 'goodbye'. For those in Christ--like Dwight--it simply means "I'll see you later!" Vic Malone

I grew up with Dwight Fields on Stewart AFB in Newburgh, NY. I always looked up to the Fields brothers. They seemed to be so positive and moving in the right direction. In the mid-seventies, Dwight’s brother Ben was attending Seaton Hall and Darryl was a student at Harvard University. During that period, Dwight, Pete Mosley and I would cruise Newburgh and Highland Falls. Truly a time of care-free living and good times. Once I entered the Academy, Dwight and Pete would attend our track meets to encourage us. I am certain Dwight now beholds the face of our Lord. May HE comfort the Fields’ family with the peace that passes all understanding. Terry Mitchell
