Obituary of Kelly Meeks

Kelly Meeks, age 47, resident of Seiling, OK passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014 in Chester, OK. Kelly was born on December 28, 1966 in Muskogee, OK and was the son of Darrel Joe Meeks and Velma Valine Watkins. He was a 1985 graduate of Coweta High School. Kelly was united in marriage to Frances Woolsey on July 12, 1988 in Coweta, OK. Kelly was CLEET certified and worked in law enforcement for several departments, including the Wagoner County Sheriff's Department for 1 year, the Porter Police Department for 1 year, the Collinsville Police Department for 2 years, the Coweta Police Department for 6 years, where he received Rookie of the Year in 1996 and Officer of the Year in 1999, the Keyes Police Department Chief of Police for 2 years and most recently, the Seiling Police Department Chief of Police for 4 years. Kelly was a member of the Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, watching westerns, livestock, horses, cows, and coaching football. Kelly started the Haskell Youth Football Association. Kelly is survived by his wife, Frances Meeks of the home in Seiling, OK; his 5 children, Waylon Meeks, Logan Meeks, Dalton Meeks, Ethan Meeks and Dixie Meeks; 2 sisters, Kim Boley and husband, Trent, of Coweta, OK and Kris Ward of Jenks, OK; 2 brothers, Faron Sullivan and wife, Sandy, of Haskell, OK and John Meeks of Tulsa, OK; his mother-in-law, Pennie Woolsey; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Kelly was preceded in death by his parents, Darrel Meeks and Velma Watkins, his father-in-law, Larry Woolsey and his grandparents, Jim and Margaret Woolsey and Finis and Emma Watkins. The viewing will be held from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the funeral home with the family present from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services for Kelly are scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK with Rev. Bill Sander officiating. Interment will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK. Pallbearers are Mike Denton, Randy Nailon, Trent Boley, Mike Friend, Levi Boley, Mike Sullivan, Bunky Milton and Jason Charlton. Honorary Pallbearers are Sonny Golden, Keno Shrum, Robbie Record and Nick Nunez. A memorial service in Seiling, OK to celebrate Kelly's life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Rock Community Church in Seiling, OK.
