Obituary of Gary Lawson
Gary Wayne Lawson, age 59, of Coweta passed from this eternal life on Sunday, February 15, 2009 after a tragic accident at his farm in Boynton, Oklahoma. He was born on December 20, 1949 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Bert F. and Thelma Marie (Bergman) Lawson. Gary was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather to his family. He attended school in Jenks and Coweta and he graduated from Coweta High School in 1968. After graduating, Gary attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah for 2 years. He and Phyllis Gilbert were united in marriage on November 25, 1969 in Coweta, Oklahoma. He enlisted in the United States Army on May 26, 1970 and was honorably discharged on November 27, 1971. Gary worked as a forklift technician at Darr Equipment in Tulsa for 20 years. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Coweta. Gary’s hobbies included raising cattle, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren, and watching OU football. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bert Lawson, Jr. Gary is lovingly survived by his wife of 39 years, Phyllis of the home; his son, Jeremy Wayne Lawson and his wife, Shelley, of Coweta; his two daughters, Misty Dawn Hargrove and her husband, Dennis, of Haskell and Jana Rae Lawson of Coweta; his brother, Robert Lawson and his wife, Susan, of Jenks; his eight sisters, Betty L. Brumble of Tulsa, Mary Scrivner and her husband, Joe, of Hulbert, Georgia Ratliff and her husband, Bill, of Jenks, Barbara Chilcoat and her husband, Don, of Jenks, Frances Mayo of Jenks, Wilma Harrison of Jenks, Bonnie Manus of Coweta, and Karen Wood and her husband, Johnny, of Coweta; his seven grandchildren, Seth Hargrove, Lindsey Hargrove, Matthew Hargrove, Jenna Lawson, Anna Hargrove, Jessi Lawson and Joey Lawson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services for Gary will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Church of God of Prophecy in Coweta. Pastor Ed Rutherford and Pastor Randy Wisdom will officiate the service.
