Obituary of Virgil Andrew Eursery
Virgil Andrew "Andy" Eursery of Broken Arrow, age 73, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 1, 2014 at his home in Broken Arrow, OK surrounded by his loving family members. Andy was born on February 24, 1940 in Kansas City, KS and was the son of Virgil and Bertha Lovella (Smith) Eursery. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he received numerous awards. In the Navy, Andy worked as an Aviation Machinist and Flight Engineer. He retired from the Navy in 1985 as Senior Chief after 23 years of service. After retiring from the Navy, he went to work at Tulsa Vo-Tech as an Air Frames Power Plant Instructor for 15 years. Andy and Darlene Bowers were married on April 6, 1986 in Coweta, OK. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 226 in Coweta, P.A.R.B. (Post Adjudication Board) and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) where he was named 2006 CASA Volunteer of the Year. Andy is survived by his wife, Darlene Marie (Bowers) Eursery of the home in Broken Arrow, OK; 7 children, Rick Stout & wife, Kathy, of Wagoner, OK, Sherry Deetz & husband, Curt, of Broken Arrow, OK, Mark Eursery & wife, Betty, of Lowell, AR, Beverly Stacklinsky & husband, Robert, of Orange Park, FL, Angela Carlson & husband, Mark, of Atlanta, GA, Phyllis Swanson & husband, Kent, of Enterprise, AL and Karen Lehman & husband, Joe, of Smyrna, TN; 3 sisters, Lovella Lillibridge, Linda Kay Yohe & husband, Larry and Kathern E. Meyer & husband, Robert; 17 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Andy was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Earl Lyle Eursery, Sr. and Paul M. Bradford, 2 sisters, Louise Y. Powell and Dorothy "Dotty" Cotton, 1 granddaughter, Tara Channell, 1 great grandson, Logan Channell and 2 nephews, Earl Lyle Eursery, Jr. and Larry Lillibridge.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, February 4, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services for Andy are scheduled for 10:00 am on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Coweta, OK with Rev. Sara Pugh officiating. Committal prayers and interment with full military honors will follow at 2:00 pm at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery in Ft. Gibson, OK. Pallbearers are members of the American Legion Post # 226 in Coweta. Honorary Pallbearers are Robert Meyer, Curt Deetz, Brady Deetz, Justin Eursery, Rick Stout, Mark Eursery, Joseph L. Bowers, Carl Hill, Marc Bailey and Spencer Foster.
