Obituary of Marie Hubert
Marie Lucille Mentzer Hubert was granted her angel wings and soared to her heavenly home on May 13, 2012. Marie was born on September 6, 1920 to Cyrus and Eltha Dinger Mentzer on a farm southeast of Hecla, South Dakota. Marie grew up on this farm as an only child and developed a fond love for her cats, dogs and being outdoors. As a young teen, Marie began attending the rural Detroit Methodist Church and developed her strong faith. Throughout the years, Marie’s faith never wavered and upon her move to Oklahoma she attended the First Baptist Church in Coweta. In 1938, while attending a masquerade ball, Marie became smitten with a handsome man that she danced with. That incredible man turned out to be Carl Alfred Hubert - the love of her life. Carl and Marie were married on August 21, 1940 in Webster, South Dakota - the day of Carl’s 27th birthday. Carl & Marie began their life together in the Hecla, South Dakota area. Marie devoted her life to raising her family which soon grew with the addition of their daughters, Sharon Kay and Darlys Rae. When the children were young, the family moved to the Mentzer family farm near Hecla where they lived until 1996. Carl and Marie loved to travel and were blessed to be fortunate enough to travel throughout the United States. However, in 1997, they decided it was time to relocate to Coweta, OK to be near their only living daughter Darlys. They were the first residents to move into the Carriage Crossing Apartments where Marie enjoyed playing dominoes, becoming involved in Bible studies and making new friends. Anyone who ever stopped by was greeted with coffee and sweets! Marie will always be remembered for her gracious and giving personality. She will also be remembered as being an amazing “prayer warrior”. Marie’s faith remained strong throughout her entire live as she devoted her life to the Lord and her family. Marie is survived by daughter, Darlys Rae and husband Ellis Chester Woodward, five grandchildren, Cindy (Murray) Litch and her husband Reed, Leslie Murray and his wife Shari, Shelly (Murray) Freeman and her husband Scott, Robin (Woodward) Klahr and her husband Shawn and Renda (Woodward) Rapp and her husband Nathan. Marie’s life was also shared by seventeen great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Waiting to greet her in heaven is her beloved husband Carl, her daughter Sharon, son-in-law Leo, Marie’s parents and her infant brother Ralph. Funeral services for Marie will be Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Coweta, OK. The Rev. Brett Wheeler will officiate the service.
