Obituary of Edith Marie Dodson
Edith Marie Dodson, long-time resident of Coweta, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday morning, May 16, 2011 at the Clarehouse in Tulsa, OK at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 11 days. She was a loving and caring mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Edith was born on August 5, 1924 in Coweta, OK to Walter Elmer and Maudie Jane (Smith) Todd. She received her education at Liberty Schools. Edith’s proudest accomplishment was that she was a homemaker for most of her life and raised four daughters and one son. She owned and operated Busy Bee Café in the mid 1960’s where she met her future husband. She also worked with her sister and nieces at the Main Street Café in Wagoner which was owned by her sister. Edith and Elmer “Dugan” Dodson were married on September 15, 1967 in Pryor, OK and they were married almost 33 years until he preceded her in death on August 3, 2000. She attended Clarksville Free Will Baptist Church in Porter. Edith and Elmer loved traveling and always looked forward to their annual summer Colorado trips. They loved to take afternoon drives visiting family and friends and Edith loved to cook everything Dugan would pick from his garden. They enjoyed fishing together and true to her character, she always ended up catching the most unusual fish. Her hobbies included crocheting, sewing, quilting, cooking, canning, making jelly and baking bread. She loved to be able to give her afghans, quilts, jellies and baked goods as gifts to her family and friends at any special occasion. Edith loved spending time with her family the most, she enjoyed family gatherings, the summer cookouts, the birthday parties and especially Christmas. At the end of her journey in this world, Edith has what mattered most around her; her family and friends. Whether it was to share old stories, or to laugh, or to read a book, or quite often just simply hold her hand when there were no words left to say. Even though her passing of this world, she left her family and friends with one last lesson of life: the tender touch of a hand or a kiss on the forehead from family and friends is indeed what makes our hearts and this world a better place. Edith is lovingly survived by one son, William Sanders of Coweta, OK; four daughters, Barbara Lewis and her husband, Larry, of Wagoner, OK, Norma Ferrell of St. Louis, MO, Sherri Killion and her husband, Mark, of Broken Arrow, OK and Leslie Clark of Tulsa, OK; one step-son, Leon Dodson and his wife, Marianne, of Coweta, OK; one sister, Margie Watkins and her husband, Maynard, of Coweta, OK; two sisters-in-law, Jane Todd and Mary Lou Todd, both of Coweta, OK; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
